Ever had a question about hashing but didn’t know who to ask?  Here is where I will try to help you...

[What is Hashing]

The Hash House Harriers is a type of running club where the runners, known as the hounds, follows a trail set in flour or paper, by the hare.  Hashing is not competitive, or at least not very, and is usually followed by a drink at a nearby establishment.

[How did it all start]

The first hash was formed in Kuala Lumpur in 1938.  In 1950 the city of Kuala Lumpur required all clubs to register with the city and the objectives of the hash were defined as:

    (a) to promote physical fitness amongst its members
    (b) to get rid of weekend hangovers
    (c) to acquire a good thirst and to satisfy it with beer
    (d) to persuade the older members that they are not as old as they feel

There is a lot more information about the history of the hash and how it evolved at  http://gotothehash.net/history/hhhhistory.html
